Canadian author, best known for the series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables.
She was brought up by her maternal grandparents following the death of her mother. She studied literature at university and became a teacher before working on various newspapers. She first started writing books while she was looking after her grandmother. In 1911 she was married to Reverend Ewan Macdonald and moved to Ontario where she continued writing.
