Puerto Rican novelist and playwright. He attended the University of Puerto Rico and after obtaining his degree he worked as a teacher from 1924 to 1988. He was put forward for the Nobel Prize in Literature but did not receive the award. 
His ashes were interred in a mausoleum at the Palacete los Moreau, a plantation house in Moca, Puerto Rico which was the inspiration for Laguerre’s La Llamarada and was renamed in honour of the fictional Moreau family of the novel.
