American novelist, best remembered for Little Women the semi-autobiographical novel that deals with her childhood in Massachusetts. The sequel, Good Wives, was published in 1869 and the saga of the March family was continued in Little Men and Jo's Boys
Alcott became involved with the women’s suffrage movement and she was the first woman registered to vote in Concord, Massachusetts. She continued to write for the rest of her life, dying from mercury poisoning, which was caused by a treatment for typhoid that she was given during the American Civil War.
